What is the NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an effective way of providing personalised care and support to people with a disability, along with their families and carers. Who can access the NDIS?
You must meet the eligibility criteria of NDIS to become a participant, in general, this includes:
- You must be under 65 years old
- You must live in Australia and be an Australian citizen (or hold relevant visas)
- Your disability must be permanent and significant
- Your disability impacts your daily life activities, requiring support and/or assistance
How does the NDIS work?
If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can become a participant by completing an Access Request Form. Once you receive an ‘access decision’ letter, the next step would be to create your NDIS plan. Everyone’s plan is different based on their disability, life goals, and support they need. Once you get the plan, which will be a written agreement, you will start getting the support and funds. It is essential to manage the budget types properly to achieve your long-term and short-term goals through your NDIS plan.
